The quietly dramatic chamber pop of ‘Big Mistake’ is the latest track from The Early Purple, AKA Matt Saxon. It’s a deeply political track that touches on issues close to Saxon’s heart, such as his hometown of Blyth turning from red to blue recently, as small ex-mining/port towns like his are being left in ruin as residents argue amongst themselves. “I never intended on writing from a political point of view but with the current situation of politics in our country, I wanted to comment on how it all makes me feel. A snapshot of the whole ordeal through my eyes, I suppose.” This is the second glimpse we’ve been treated to from Summer Hide, the upcoming debut album from The Early Purple, which drops on May 12th, 2023. -Dan Peeke
